Description

The Museum of Fine Artsin Budapest was inaugurated in 1906 by Emperor Franz Joseph. The museum had exceptional works from the collections of Jankovich, Pyrker, Esterházy and Ipolyi. During World War I the building suffered severe damage and some of the works it housed were stolen or destroyed. The pieces that had managed to be evacuated in time were returned to the institution in 1947. The building has recently been renovated, opening again in 2018. Among the works from Castilla y León housed in the institution are a Saint Sebastian (Villalobos, Zamora), the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple and a set of panels that belong to the same altarpiece and were made by the Master of Budapest.
